It's legal if you pass between the shoulder line
Meanwhile it's allowed to play the ball towards your body axis, in the most situations of beachvolleyball it's backwards.
In my knowledge that would be illegal because although it is square off of the shoulders the ball spun a quarter rotation and in this case it would have to have no spin to be legal.

@Filipe Baleijo Really, Aren't we obliged to pass the ball back in hitting it, in beach volley ? That's why nobody feints and everybody spikes.
no, that's completely ok, you can basically use any technique to make a point. the real question is if the set was clean (close to no rotation and straight forward/backward), and i think that was the case
