  • What if the real crisis in education isn’t apathy-but disconnection?
In this inspiring and thought-provoking talk, educator and speaker Katie challenges the way we think about learning. Through personal stories and classroom experiences, she reveals how today’s education system has stifled curiosity, creativity, and deep thinking-leaving students disengaged and unprepared for the future.
With humor, insight, and a call to action, Katie shows how fearless curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful connections can transform not just classrooms, but entire communities. Because when students are empowered to think boldly and care deeply, they don’t just learn-they lead. Katie Trowbridge is an award-winning educator with over 20 years of experience, dedicated to helping teachers create more engaging and thought-provoking learning environments. As the creator of the CREATE Method, she empowers educators to integrate curiosity, creativity, and deeper thinking into their curricula. A best-selling author and sought-after speaker, Katie travels nationwide, sharing strategies for transforming classrooms. She holds dual master’s degrees in Teaching and Administration and is currently pursuing an Ed.D. Her passion for education and teacher collaboration drives her mission to make learning more meaningful for students everywhere. She's right about letting students ask those tough questions, it really allows them to be more engaged and excited.

That story about Mark had me in tears... I was that kid in school who felt alone and disconnected

This talk is sooo important and so well presented. HOW do we get this talk to the people who keep our education systems stuck in the same ridiculous place they've been for years??

Very inspiring and get-to-the-point Ted-talk. I agree with Katie Trowbridge totally that 'disconnection' is the biggest problem and the solution begins with 'fearless curiosity'. Let us connect and co-create!

So many aspects of life benefit from collaborative approach, makes sense that learning would be one of them!

This highly resonates with me, as the mother of three school-aged boys in public schools, one with ADHD and an IEP for whom I have always been a huge advocate. What you are communicating are discussions I have had, and continue to have, with my own children at one point or another. The importance of education and school and why they need these tools for life. This guidance should be in all of our schools, especially during IEP meetings. Children need this validation and collaboration from their educators so much, especially with our current pediatric mental health crisis (declared by our former surgeon general)! Thank you for spreading the word about this and your mission!

Thank you for commenting. I completely agree. Deeper thinking can help with mental health in so many ways.

Such a powerful message and sorely needed. The way we educate (and even raise) our kids is the opposite of what we value in the workplace. So how are we preparing them? And beyond that how would they be able to be the change makers that the world needs? So true.

Exactly. We have to start bridging that gap. It's important to ensure our children are ready for the future.

Was interesting to hear about this from someone in her position but I think the problem is deeper than just students feeling disconnected. There's such a lack of support/resources for teachers and having to teach from that place of depletion would be really tough

Some of those statistics are truly shocking and honestly quite sad

She touches on a lot of important points here but what she says about connection is really poignant
